Mental Health and Psychiatric nursing (2 Weeks)
BACKGROUND
This course is designed to help students to foster their understanding related to the concept of mental health and psychiatric nursing and the contribution of culture in providing nursing care. The course introduces mental health issues and trends, legal-ethic, health care system in Bali, social-cultural, nursing care, and communication skill aspect in mental health and psychiatric nursing to enhance mental health in clients with diverse cultures. Throughout this course students will be immersed in indoor class, field trip to hospitals, primary health care settings, and community setting. Students will also get an opportunity to learn about Balinese culture, such as learning how to make Balinese offering, traditional instruments (gamelan), traditional dance and experiencing spiritual cleansing and healing in temples in Bali
OBJECTIVES
After completion of this course, students will able to review the basic concepts of mental health and psychiatric nursing, to understand the influences of cultural difference on people’s health behaviours, to perform culturally sensitive communication skill and modalities therapy, to recognize Balinese culture and cultural differences.
ACTIVITIES

2. Visit Primary Health Care Clinic in Denpasar and community setting
3. Visit Mental Health Hospital of Bali Province
4. Visit non-government organization (NGO)
5. Art Journey: Learn how to make canang sari offerings, how to play Balinese gamelan, and join Balinese dance lesson
6. Full-day spiritual cleansing and healing
