Understanding The Practice of Primary Health Care in Developing Country (Study Program of Medicine Elective Study) (Short course)
BACKGROUND
This course offers
medical students to have practical skills in community and preventive medicine.
In the learning process, medical student should focus not only upon sickness,
but also on the health of the community, early detection, health risk factor
from the environment and disease prevention. The main goal of community
medicine is to prevent disease and to keep the community member healthy. Thus,
sometimes community medicine is also called as preventive medicine. In
community medicine, we focus on comprehensive approach including preventive,
promotive, curative and rehabilitation. Community Health Centre (Puskesmas)
plays an important role in the implementation of community and preventive
medicine.
OBJECTIVES
Throughout this course
students will be immersed in indoor class, field trip to primary health care
settings, and community setting. Students will also get an opportunity to learn

health problem and evaluation of the program related to the health problem

promotion program in the community
3. Application of health
promotion in the community
4. Practice of
traditional medicine in the community
5. The concept of family
medicine if primary care practice
(small group discussion,
student project, self reflection)
