Undergraduate International Program for Global Health (2 weeks)
BACKGROUND
Tropical
Veterinary Sciences is a 2-week field course offered by Faculty of Veterinary
Medicine, Bali, Indonesia. Thiscourse is a 1-credit course equivalent. The
course provides both Indonesian and international students with the opportunity
to have field observation and hands-on experience in three major areas of
veterinary sciences practiced in the tropical island of Bali, Indonesia.
The three major topics covered
in the course are:
1. Tropical wildlife conservation.
2. Tropical agriculture.
3. Tropical disease control
Most importantly, the
course will provide opportunities for international collaboration in research
and education.
OBJECTIVES
Upon the completion of
this program students will have theoretical (through article review) and
practical (through field observation) knowledge in:
1. The ecosystem of wildlife such as longtailed macaque
(Macaca fascicularis) and sea turtle (Chelonioidea).
2. The
conservation effort being taken to protect wildlife in Bali such as long-tailed
macaque (Macaca fascicularis) and sea
turtle (Chelonioidea).
3. The
animal agriculture activities practiced in Bali including integrated farming
system, semi-intensive farming, and artificial insemination.
4. Tropical disease control and mitigation such
as rabies vaccination and dog sterilization
program in Bali.
5. Identifying potential sources of disease
outbreak and transmission.
6. Procedures for tropical disease diagnostic.
ACTIVITIES
1. Understanding Tropical Veterinary Sciences

3. Observing wildlife and animal market
4. Observing poultry and pig farm
5. Understanding rabies vaccination, spray and neuter
