Intercultural Communication in Multifaceted Globalization (Study Program of Internation Relations) (Short course Semester)
BACKGROUND
As a global feature,
globalization is a process that knits the world. Thus, globalization generates
a global interdependence process that includes all aspects of life, including
social and political aspects. Globalization is a complex phenomenon with its
many dimensions which includes : the spread of global communication, the global
triumph of capitalism and emergence of global market, the spread of global
culture, the spread of English as a global language, the spread of democracy, and
the spread of global civil society. The prevailing dominant culture is a
challenge for local culture in terms of social and political issues. It is
important that its existence and identify is maintained and sustainable for the
future generation. Therefore the voices from local perspectives becomes very
important to raise and explore. Multifaceted Globalization presents the issues
related to various aspect of globalization offered in several courses, namely :
Communal Space; Go Gibung; Globalization, Tourism and Social Change;
Intercultural Communication; Political Ecology; The Technique of Lontar
Preservation; and Bahasa Indonesia
OBJECTIVES
The course programs aims
to provide students with the theories and issues about the communal space;
provide students with the theories and issues about the tradition of megibung
in particular community in Bali; provide students with the theories, issues, and
conflict management in the context of political ecology; provide students with
the theories, issues and conflict management in the context of political
ecology; provide the students the theories and practice of lontar preservations;
provide the students with the basic skills of daily communication in Bahasa Indonesia.
Learning outcomes of the program: at the end of the program students will comprehend
the social and political aspects of multifaceted globalization, theories
related to the themes, the issues arised, the local perspectives toward the
issues, as well as the conflict management at the community level
