Marine Pollution (Study Program of Biology) (Short Course)
BACKGROUND
This course is programed to foster students understanding related to the concept of Marine Pollution. Marine pollution course is ecological base science concern on the marine ecosystem destruction. The course introduces oceanography and the scope of pollution and the contribution of human activities, the source pollutant either land-base or sea-base sources or the impact of pollution to human of organism. The course is enriched with laboratory and field work to improve studentβs analysis skill. The course also develops student writing and presentation skill by submitting manuscript containing a chosen issue.
OBJECTIVES
This course aims to:
1. Provide students with an introduction to marine pollution and basic oceanography
2. Provide students how to analyses environmental degradation
3. Provide the source and impact of landbased activities pollution (mining, deforestation, fisheries and plastic)
4. Provide the impact and remediation of sewage and heavy metal
5. Provide impact of hydrocarbon and thermal pollution onto marine organism and global warming
6. Provide environmental gradual graduation
ACTIVITIES
1. Class activities
2. Field activities (site visit and field Workshop)
