Small-Scale & Sustainable Agricultural System (Study Program of Agricultural & Bio System Engineering) (one semester)
BACKGROUND
ABE provides a multi-disciplinary program designed to train students and researchers to be at the forefront in helping small-scale farming to serve a more significant role in global agriculture without exacerbating climate change, water scarcity, or pollution. 21 credits (7 courses) are offered. The course syllabus has been designed to provide handson experience working with small scale, traditional farming systems, and knowledge on adding value to agricultural products. The program also offers students a chance to discover and explore the diversity of Bali’s landscapes and cultures. Students could to take the methods for learning a local ecology they have practiced on campus and apply these methods to new places.
OBJECTIVES
The courses offered aim at integrating a healthy environment, commercial , and social and economic equity so that every stakeholder in the food system (growers, food processors, distributors, retailers, consumers, and waste managers) can play a role in ensuring a sustainable agricultural system. We focus on integrating ecological, cultural, and social strategies to develop holistic methods of resource improvement . This course also aims at providing international students to pursue academic and cultural activities in Bali, Indonesia, and expecting them to contribute to the development works rough collaborative research activities. We intend to promote the globalization of ABE by fostering the relationship between Indonesian students and international students, which gives a better understanding and opportunity of Indonesia, especially Bali, to the global community.
