Bali International Program on Asian Studies (BIPAS) Workshop on Shopping and Traditional Attire University General

Udayana University (Unud) BIPAS program conducted its first workshop for the Spring semester with the theme of shopping and traditional attire on Thursday, 22nd of February 2024 at the Faculty of Humanities, Denpasar by inviting its 72 students from 7 different countries in Europe and America to practice bargaining at Sanglah traditional market and purchase a set of Balinese traditional attire to have them practice on wearing it in campus.


The event was started by general lecture regarding Balinese traditional attire and the tradition as well as any hints on bargaining in traditional markets. Students were introduced to key phrases that they can use in bargaining and ensures that they would be able to distinguish characteristics on Balinese traditional attire, either on the male or the female sets.


The workshop as well as its general lecture were guided by Ni Ketut Sri Rahayuni, S.S., M.Hum; one of the lecturer of English Department, who is also equipped with decades of experience in teaching international students. The coordinator of BIPAS program, A.A. Sagung Shanti Sari Dewi, S.S., M.Hum., M.App.Ling has opened this workshop and seen how all students actively taken part in the activity and thoroughly enjoyed their first-hand experience in so many cultural occassions that otherwise would never happened back in their own country. To add on to that, their experience in wearing the Balinese traditional attire was a sight to behold that left them satisfied with a group photos – thus, ending this workshop, leaving them with one more workshop and excursion for the rest of this Spring Semester.
