Ministry of Education and Culture Holds Darmasiswa 2023/2024 Return Debriefing, Awardees Show Various Indonesian Art and Culture Performances University General

After completing the Indonesian language and culture education program for almost a year, the Ministry of Education and Culture held the Darmasiswa 2023/2024 Return Debriefing event in Jakarta on Thursday (27/6). The event was attended and opened by Secretary General of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology, Ir. Suharti, M.A., Ph.D, representatives from the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, representatives from LPDP, Indonesian Darmasiswa managers, Darmasiswa and managers from various universities (PT) throughout Indonesia. Three of the four Udayana University students accompanied by Senja Pratiwi, Ph.D as the KUI Coordinator who is the manager of Udayana University (Unud) Darmasiswa received an invitation and attended the event.


The event was lively with various performances of Darmasiswa awardees from various universities in Indonesia who performed poems, dances, songs, and other regional cultures.

Prof. Anton Rahmadi, Ph.D as the Head of the Higher Education Financing Center (BPPT) of the Ministry of Education and Culture expressed his appreciation from a total of 281 participants from 67 countries and 63 universities in Indonesia, 126 Darmasiswa people from 40 management universities could attend the event. Darmasiswa is a scholarship program that provides opportunities for foreigners to get to know more closely the Indonesian language and culture. This program has existed in Indonesia since 1974 and until now has more than 9000 awardees from all over the world. Anton Rahmadi expressed his highest appreciation to the Ministry of Education and Culture, LPDP, Ministry of Law and Human Rights and Darmasiswa managers from each university for working hard to make the Darmasiswa program a success.

Ghofar Ismail, a representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs congratulated the awardees who had completed the program well and hoped that the many beautiful memories that had been made, as well as the positive things gained from Indonesia could be brought back to their respective countries to convey to friends, family and colleagues. He also hopes that the awardees will not only stop here but continue to be Indonesian ambassadors as liaison agents between their respective countries and Indonesia in the fields of economy, education, development and business and other fields.


“After returning, the awardees should be able to keep communicating with Darmasiswa in Indonesia and representatives of Indonesia abroad to discuss and improve the quality of the program.

In his remarks and official opening, the Secretary General expressed his gratitude to all parties who have managed the Darmasiswa program from the selection stage to the return. He mentioned that Darmasiswa awardees are people who dare to take the risk of coming to a country that has a different language and culture, it is not an easy thing to be able to adapt to a new place. He added that 10-12 months is too short a time to learn Indonesia's rich language, art, culture and customs. She hopes that in this short time, students can open their eyes and recognize the diversity that Indonesia has.


Suharti gave five important messages for the students to maintain communication and brotherhood with fellow Darmasiswa students as well as the managing universities, strengthen the alumni community to promote Indonesian arts and culture, strengthen world cooperation through culture, and maintain world peace through culture.


Suharti ended her speech by congratulating the Darmasiswa awardees for completing their studies, and apologizing for any shortcomings in the management so far.


With the end of the study period of Darmasiswa Unud, Senja who accompanied the return of Darmasiswa to their respective countries thanked them for choosing Unud and advised them that Unud is always open if they want to return.
